Germany Out of Bratwurst?

We had an odd thing happen on the last visit. We were craving the bratwurst from Germany that comes in those great pretzel buns. (And a nice beer too.) Evidently so was everyone else. When we arrived at the pavilion the courtyard was jammed with people and there was a long line snaking out the door. Though that’s usually our signal to try again another time, we decided to wait it out. After a few minutes the word came out that they were “out of bratwurst”. I couldn’t imagine that the provisioning was that far off in the middle of a weekend, but I guess it happens when everyone has the same cravings.

So we moved on and tried one of the restaurants that sems to get skipped by many. We went to “Tangerine Cafe” in Morroco. Though the prices seemed a bit on the high side, the wraps we has were nice portions and the flavor treats of the lentel salad and orange couscous was a nice diversion from the usual. I’ll definitely go back to have the full platters. (But Germany better not be out of brats the next time. I’m really craving one now)

Cantina Is An EPCOT Waterfront Meal Deal

The casual dining locations in the EPCOT World Showcase continue to be the best values at Disney World. Though the prices have increased a bit in the past year they still offer family dining experiences that have good food and unique settings.

Ranking at the top of our list is the Cantina de San Angel at Mexico. Menu items are similar to the more expensive restaurant inside but at much lower prices. The fact that it also offers a waterfront view overlooking the lagoon is a plus and the parade of Ibis at the shoreline provides an entertaining floor show as well.

I’d also recommend the Conga Fruit drink. It’s a bit expensive, but a family favorite of ours.

Pizza Takes A Smaller Slice of Your Disney World Budget

Pizza has become hard to find at Disney World recently. At EPCOT there used to be an outstanding pizza restaurant in Communicore West that is now a character greeting spot. Getting a whole pizza for, as I recall, $16 made taking your family to the park much more affordable. We ate there almost every visit and were accompanied by tables full of people. Then a few years ago it closed suddenly. We thought they were just remodeling until they took out the registers and menu boards. It seems such a strange move. I can only speculate that it drove all those customers to higher priced meals elsewhere.

In our pledge to give you some money saving tips along with fun here is where you can find good pizza at a moderate price. You will find it at the cart on the walkway between Test Track and the Odyssey Restaurant. (That’s a story for another time.) Though we have experienced times when it was closed. (Why do they close ANYTHING when the park is open?) Lately, it’s been open every time we have passed. Unfortunately, since it has not been reliable before and there is NO SEATING other than the benches nearby, we’ve only enjoyed the treat a couple of times. It’s still good, nice crust, good sauce, a good amount of cheese and a price of just $6.50 that will leave you some cash for a dessert when you get to the World Showcase.

Chip, Dale & Mickey Make a Cheap Disney Snack

I think I may have stumbled on the least expensive food item at the Disney World parks. Look for the Chip and Dale pretzels in the gift shops. These were at Spaceship Earth. A decent size little bag is only 79 cents. A large bag with enough for the family is only $2.49. That’s about the same as you’d pay at your neighborhood grocery. The pretzels are good. The little Mickey shapes and flavor remind me of Eagle snacks. Of course there was the time we visited a Pennsylvania Dutch pretzel factory. I asked them if there were a lot of pretzel recipes for all the different brands they made. They said “No, a pretzel is a pretzel is a pretzel”. But for a quick Disney snack this pretzel is a bargain.
