It was just announced that Captain EO is coming back to EPCOT this summer. As you know it opened in Disneyland last February and we started a bit of a campaign (with thousands of other fans) to bring it back home to EPCOT as well. Maybe someone was listening. The 17-minute musical space-fantasy adventure film is now scheduled to open at EPCOT on July 2.
The news brings EO to Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris as well. No more details yet on the EPCOT show, including how long it will be there. I’ll post it as soon as we know.

Just like leaving every attraction, Disney lead us right into a gift shop this week. With a tease about a “special announcement” last week. They did a Twitter press release and launched a line of Captain EO retail products. That’s a disappointment for all the fans East of Anaheim. The hope was that they were going to bring the attraction back to EPCOT as well. I promise I’ll stop by the gift shop afterward.

Deep in the heat of summer, it’s hard to believe that the cool (er) days of strolling around the World Showcase Lagoon sampling taste treats from all corners of the globe is just around the corner. It’s the 14th year for the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. I’ve been to them all. Back in the early years it was a November event and limited to just a month. Lately it’s crept earlier in the calendar and grown in duration and scope. This year it starts on September 25th and runs through November 8th. Unfortunately food prices have also suffered and upward creep while portions have grown smaller. Another crimp in your budget this year is that the previous culinary demos and beverage tastings that were free are now ticketed events that will set you back $8.
The festival guide has been released. It details all the special, higher priced food events events, featured chefs and the Eat To The Beat lineup of performers. We’re looking forward to blowing our budget by grazing from country to country.

EPCOT crowds enjoying the Chinese acrobatic show.
While theme parks nationally showed the effects of the struggling economy with downward attendance trends, EPCOT held it’s own and maintained third place in North America with the same number of visitors in 2008. With an attendance of 10.9 million it ranked behind Magic Kingdom with 17 million and Disneyland, Anaheim with 14.7 million.
No wonder you have to get a FastPass early in the day for Soarin’ and Test Track.

It appears that the most significant change to Energy during the recent maintenance closure was the outside color. The familiar kaleidescope of color gave way to a corporate grey with a blue base and a red highlight. 
The curb around the flower garden is now painted in the new blue hue with a bed of red geraniums as the finishing touch.
