New Exhibit in EPCOT’s Living With The Land
Author: Mike
The new exhibit growing at the end of the Living With The Land boat ride is going to be AQUAPONICS. Aquaponics is the combination of recirculating aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil). So it will keep in the theme of potential growing systems that might be used in space travel that has been at the end of the ride since it’s inception. You can get just a glimpse of above ground tanks behind the construction screen.
A very environmentally friendly form of growing food, in aquaponics the fish waste provides a food source for the growing plants and the plants provide a natural filter for the fish. It is a mini ecosystem where both plants and fish can thrive. So it provides a solution for the problem of disposing of nutrient rich water from fish farming and the need for nutrients for hydroponic plants. Commercially, aquaponics is pretty new technology that has the potential to be a more efficient and space saving method of growing fish and vegetables.
For the first time in recent Disney history, there will be fish but no Nemo.
